That is Lepidiolamprologus elongatus.
They are lurk and strike predators, and will eat anything that fits in their mouth, although I do not consider then particularly aggressive.
I have seen photos of adults from Lake Tanganyika that could be almost 2ft long.
Mine started spawning at about 8", and were great parents, that raised many fry.


The parents would occasionally lock jaws, and the sparring would do slight damage.

Although they grow slowly, at 8"+, a 6ft tank seemed minimum for a paired housed with other similar sized cichlids.


I kept them with Ctenochromis horei, and had no problems, they were similar in size, and the deep bodies if the Ctenochromis seemed to be too much for the Lepidiolamprologus to consider food..
