I want to hear your honest opinion on cichlids personally for me I don't care much about them every since I heard that Cichlids werent the best fish for me, but more and more when i search in some forums cichlid appears alot so Ive gotten more comfortable with cichlids right now my fav is rams but I still have doubts. So tell me what you think about them as a fish.

Reason why Im saying this is one having aggressive fish hasn't really caught on to me but i owned 1 oscar 2 gars its just my wallet doesnt support their appetites but cichlids maybe the closest thing.

Yeah, I'd say they are probably the most popular with serious hobbyist. They just seem to be more personable and interesting with their interaction. I personally find their behavior fascinating. Plus, they come with a ton of variety. I actually use to dislike them until I ended up with one by accident. I've been hooked ever since.

lots of variety as far as size and temperment and skill level. generally very hardy. and you can get lots of color without the hassle of running saltwater.

definitely not the first fish i liked in fact at first I refused to get cichlids wanting only community and odd ball fish but eventually I broke down buying some Africans then slowly converting almost all of my tanks to Africans then to sa/ca. Now my tanks are mainly oddballs and sa/ca cichlids.
I like that they are sort of a challenge and very diverse with varying attitude and personality. Easy to breed and hardy (for the most part).

I think it's just that there are soooo many fish that are classified as cichlids! And that makes for more diversity. Does anybody know of how many different types of cichlids there are?

the diversity is a big deal, so is the different methods of breeding and parental care. For me, the personality of a lot of species, especially CA species is very appealing.
