I through some plants in my cichla tank a few months ago to see if they would live and grow. I picked some hardy easy to keep plants and they are growing pretty well, but my cichla love to rip through them. They are always rough around them while they eat and swim around but many times they just swim up and bite off peices. For now my plants still live and grow but my fish slow them down alot. Is it a wasted effort for my to try to have a semi-planted aquarium with my cichla?

I had plants and they did well. Do you have enough room for them to swim? Pics.......

i have anubias and java fern with my azul pair... algae grew on them D: but other than that. no damage from the cichlas

I have two small Anubis plants in with my Cichla. Something bites off the ends of the leaves at night. I assume it is the Bass. The only other culprit I guess could be a very small Clown Pleco. I wonder who it is.

i have those long fake fancy plants, and even those get destroyed. i always have bits and pieces end up in my overflow box. the plants keep getting shorter lol. ive watched my cichla sit there and nibble and chew on the plastic plants, ripping leaves off

My cichla never touched my fake plants. Even when I had the big guys. You must have some real HELL-RAISERS in your tank. :WHOA:

its just the cichla i guess. every week i have to replant my tank because my mono and my fredrichalli i thnk dat how u say it constantly tear the plants out. so i went to walmart purchased some large fishing weights and went ghetto style. now all my plants stay down oh and my gar luvs the long piece of fake ivy i bought at the dollar tree goes to one side of the tank almost to the other side.
