Cichla are always freaked

Time and familiarity with the stimulus will take care of most freakiness.

ive noticed the less fish you have in the tank, the less freaked they get.
not always the case of course...
mine just settled over time once they figured out i meant food.

I kept my kelberi in the kitchen away from the main traffic and they would really freak every time I went over there to do anything. My wife couldn't even go over there to look at them or even get the bread. Lol But I moved them into the tank in my front room and within 2 days they calmed right down. And within 2 weeks they would meet me in the corner for feeding time. There is more cover in my big tank, plants and rocks. So I think they felt more comfortable in there along with me being around the tank more often. It just takes time.

1. Start hand feeding them. This will help them associate you with food and calm them down a little. There still learning remember you have what I call Lightning in a bottle.
2. Get used to there Thunder and Lightning when they associate you with food you will still deal with some water on the floor or in most cases a lot of water on the floor. Just be thankful there still small enough to turn back!
