Little worms means you are feeding too much, and not all the food is getting eaten.

I actually stopped feeding once a day and changed to a once every other day to keep my sand substrate cleaner. My nitrate levels have always been good, but just to keep the sand cleaner looking it seemed smarter. You can always use flake food to supplement their regular diet, it will get eaten, but does not seem to create the worms.
