Sorry, not sure what rio meta orinos are. Over here they are just called orinos.
The blue tank has no sump, only two fx5 filters. I use two large pumps to circulate the water-seems to work well.

oh okay, wow 2 fx5 filters? interesting, how often do u have to clean them?

I clean them every 3-4 months. I monitor the water every day, plus I'm very careful with leaving any excess pellets on the bottom of the tank.
Fx5's are good for 1400 ltrs. Two of them should service around 2800 ltrs. The tank is about 2300 ltrs, so it should handle it. I've had it running for a year now, seems to be fine.

That's a lot of money if they breed for you.
Agreed and I'm surprised that cichla are even allowed there at all, being such potential threats to the native fish if just a few of them are set free in local waters...
The name Rio Meta refers to a particular collection point that the fish originated from.

You got that right! Unless they're monos, it's hard to get them.
I recently heard that it's even harder to get them into New Zealand.
I'll google Rio Meta. So it's like Brokopondo and Tocantins?

Yes,another fine group of orinos are those that come from Rio Nigro but they have not been available for years.
