Cichla Identifying Markings.

From what I gather, it is almost impossible to ID cichla that are really small. I'm not sure how much one of those charts would help.

It's not! Just all of us need more trainning and we are all getting it with all the new little ones around. The problem comes in to play when were mislead by the LFS who sell it as one Sp. and it really is another. I know I myself feel more comfortable with my Iding. Which I constantly am telling the LFS keepers here to change the lable on there tanks becuase there so wrong. But Pharaoh your right it is almost impossible but it can be done. Ask boostin he eats and sleeps cichla so his trained eye is damn near perfect imo. Over time of owning all these diffrent species you can and will notice the suttle diffrences. Even at 2''.

Well...there...you...go. Awesome. I can't tell a bit of difference between my occels and orinos.

Give it some time I felt the same way when I first got into them and then a lot of the suttle difference's Boostin was talking about one day just mad sense to me. It's all good man your just starting out so with a little more time it will start to make sense. Believe me when there talking about the location of the Cichla and those markings being diffrent I use to look at the screen and think BS but now it is starting to sink in for me. After spending hours looking at these diffrent Cichla sp. and there diffrent locations in the wild I am starting to see the little diffrences even if it is just a Spot or spnagle in a different place on the body. Also when you start expanding your collection you will see the diffrences as they grow and then you can use that information to id them when smaller.

When i first started with cichla (around a year a go) i didnt know jack!
Now i still know Jack, nah just playing, i can sort of tell the differences between mono, ocel & tems at juvies, starting to pick it up with the rest..
But like everyone says youll end up picking it up more the longer your in the game..

Coo coo. I can't wait till they get a little bigger. Nobody likes a delicate predator. lol
