Cichla kelberi sp Sao Francisco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah this bass has me stumped as well.....super beautiful though. What other bass are indicative of the Sao Francisco region that it could be?

This thread and type of discussion is what makes me love cichla, and more so love the guys who keep cichla and help out other keepers with this amazing species.

thanks wes for the educated guess and thanks ryan.... sao francisco should only have piquitis or kelberis, i mean i think that was what i researched on... i dunno if these are piquitis they probably are the most yellow piquitis i've ever seen haha... might these guys be hybrids?? i mean coz if we do not id them, they should be either uncollected species like jariina, vazzoleri, and the other variants, or they may be hybrids... kelzul? hehe

Yeah it is tough to tell what they are right now.. I mean if they told you they were kelberi and they wernt, then who knows, maybe they wernt even from the sao fran? These fish def do look special though. The 1st pic fish looks like a orino almost. only time will tell what they are :) still very nice fish but they look like 2 different fish to me.

Very interesting. The top looks like it could possibly be a kel...bottom looks almost like a pinima. Keep up the progress pics please.

Doesn't look like kelberis.. Interesting cichla

hey guys here's an update of my neighbor's sao frans... first two pics are of the same fish, 3rd and 4th pics are the super blinged one. i don't think they are kelberis.. but i dunno what they are now!

this is gonna be an interesting growout for sure. beautiful cichla nonetheless

from what I recall, the cichla piquiti were tranplanted in sao francisco, not originally from that region. So its very possible that hybrids result from it. These could be hybrids of piquiti with kelberi from that area, which also explains the similarities from both of those fish
