keep beefing him up on minnows, use Dmacks tecnique on converting cichla off live food, its a sticky in this forum

His fish is 12 inches, it can go quite a while without food, it is not a juvenile:WHOA:

Exactly...and that is what I was trying to say. IT IS NOT A JUVENILE.

If you had of kept cichla before...you would know that they often do not eat in the first few days after introduction.

I've had fish go months without eating...

Seriously..there is nothing to worry about yet...it will take food eventually. I personally wouldn't be feeding it too much live food right now. He said that they were taking frozen previously so they should take it now aswell. If you feed a lot of live now it may make it impossible to get back onto frozen.

Like the others said...keep the temp high. This fish is more than likely stressed. I just had a 12inch cichla covered in Ich so don't think it only happens to juveniles.

I don't get that

Are you implying that its alright to starve a dog?

Hello Cichla Fans,

My Cichla is eating and live food it is. I've waited another week but he didn't respond to the frozen (defrozen of course) food. So last weekend I got him some minnows with succes.

Thanks for the advice.

Greetings,
Nico
