Cichla Ocellaris "Brokopondo" monthly progression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good work beefin him up NY! Just a word of advice.....while they are small you should add a couple more cichla of similar size so the aggression can be spread as they grow. And you might as well grab a few more while they are small and are able to be grown out together. Cause we all know cichla get spendy as they get bigger....depending on the species.

Actually 1 is more than enough. The broko is the centerpiece of my community. I have my pair of bala sharks , pair of tinfoil barbs and an oscar. I like a varied community with the cichla as the headliner.

My plan is to go to a 180 in a year or so. That is possibly to small for the Broko alone.

if anything I may be unloading my mono very soon. The Broko is chasing him all the time and they have a tusslle here and there.

Thanks. 88 Really? LoL two Fat Ladies.

KooL thanks.
What foods??
Tilapia?

Hikari carnivore food sticks (arowana photo on package) and Hikari cichlid bio gold floating pellets. No Tilapia....yet.

It seems since I started adding Bio gold 5 days ago his growth has accelerated. I feed Bio gold for 1st feeding then food sticks for 2nd feeding then alternate back to bio gold then food stick. Total of 4 feedings a day.

Trust me , if you want to blow out your bass quickly follow that feeding regime with 88-89 degree temps. I had it at 91.5 for over a week treating ich. Seemed to love it.

Change 30% of water every three days as well.

I could swear its getting noticably bigger by the day and so is his attitude. He is just relentless chasing the mono bass. He may be a peacock bass but his attitude is all cichlid. Yes , I know peacock bass are cichlids. Did not know they could be this aggressive. In 1 month he grew a good 1.5 inches.

I lowered my temp to 86 to see if that cuts down the aggression.

This will be a new member of the community in 2 weeks after quarantine. As a precaution he is being treated as if he has ich and flukes.

I could not help getting this oscar from AquaScape yesturday. Just look at that color and it was so lively. There are no photo manipulations here. Thats the real color !!

It ate like a pig within 5 minutes after release. Its approx. 2.5 - 3 inches now but I am going to size him up a bit.

I see all these other set ups with cichla and oscars mixed with no problems. My goal is to have the same. I always liked oscars.
