Guys, a friend of mine is getting a couple of cichla ocellaris and i might get one of them. But, before i do so, i'd like to get some personal experience feedback on these guys.
I have 2 tanks to put it in, depending on the cichla's behaviour.
Is it wise to keep only one?
Can these guys go well with other fish? Are they dominant/agressive? Ive read they can go well with everything that doesnt fit their mouth, is this true?
How are they during feeding? Will they eat everything like shrimp, mussel and pellets? Will they be puppies like my datnoid?
My datnoid is currently boss in my tank and i'd hate to see him get busted by the cichla.
Any info or anwsers to questions above are well appreciated.

Agreed I would like to hear some of those answer's too :D

Just to double check compatibility ofcourse, in case I might get interested in one after seeing yours when you actually get him :headbang2

Wow alot of questions. It is possible to keep one but IMO better in groups. They can be aggressive to their own kind and others in the tank as they get larger. Feeding time and what they eat depends on what you get them trained on, they should eat all of that if you get them trained.

Don't know if it'll boss your dat around, pending the size it might outgrow it.

I have one Cichla Ocelaris with my widebar Datnioides. He is pretty much a pansy to me and hides alll the time. He won't eat anything but live and TRIES to boss the dats around but the dat is definatly meaner and wins.

If your not going for more than one don't get it, this bass was a waste of 70 dollars

I have 2 7" they were in a 75gallon and came up to the tank when everyone was sitting but when u stould up they darted around and hid. They are in my Larger tank now and come up to the glass every time i go near it. They would probably be better getting them smaller and than growing them out imo.

sweet, thanks for the info guys. so it would be best to keep them as a couple? my bro is gonna get them at around 20cm so it would be best for him to keep both??

Seems like it.....now I gotta upgrade to a 240x120x70 cm tank :( :( :)

You can always come by and check them out! Feeding should be fun. Esp. with those 3 marble motoro's I ordered :WHOA: :screwy: :grinno: (kidding about the rays...for now)

IMO I would keep both. But just me. I kept two monos by themselves before and they were ok as juvi's. Not alot of fighting with each other or anyone else.
