I've been after some Cichla ocellaris for ages, but having a 6x2x2 I know it won't be that long till I need to upgrade. The fish are 2" now, how long in time am I looking at before I would have to upgrade?

Just trying to work out if this is something I could do. I can upgrade but not for sometime. Can someone let me know what the growth rate on these guys is.

Thanks

You have at least a year and a half...possibly more unless your "power feeding" the poor things.

I'm gonna say 2 years and then you should still have some time to look for a new tank.

Ah Mr .Bruce I had no idea we had a p-bass section, then I stumbled across it after posting this..

Wolf.Tounge thanks thats very helpful, gonna order four of these badboys...

I'm Excited already hehe

Are they just as aggressive when young? Seem to see a lot of them kept in shoals in other peoples tanks.. How many is minimum that will be ok, yet still have the pack mentality (murder murder kill kill etc)

Pbass are actully a lot less aggressive than a lot of people assume. They CAN hold thier own with fairly tough fish but my wife and I havn't found them to be a danger to any of our other fish. Even the big Angelfish, in fact, pushed the small Pbass around...

About the ONLY thing Pbass are aggressive towords is FOOD....

wow i never realised that wolf, thanks for the insight.. great to hear from someone whos got experience with these mega fish!

What other fish are you gonna be having in the same tank? if its just the pbasses then you should be fine for a long time..like 2-2.5 years.. thats if you don't powerfeed them.
