Hi.

I have always wanted peacock bass ALOT, and after seeing some awesome cichla here in the forum both pics and videos, i decided im gonna get some cichla.

Well the main problem is that i live in Iceland so cichla are very pricey, so i couldnt afford to bet 10x 2" cichla for live $5 each. There are two lfs here that can import cichla. Lfs "A" can import C. Ocellaris 2" for $20 each, lfs "B" can import C. Temensis for $65 each. There is also 1 lfs that i havent checked on yet, might be something they could import (hoping monos or orinos) but i will check on that tomorrow.

For a starter i have already ordered 4x Ocells from LFS "A". = $80
And i was thinking in a few months to order 1x temensis.

I CURRENTLY only have a 100g. But i will upgrade to a 300 soon.
The 100g is running Rena XP3 and a Juwel 1000 filter.

I hope you like my pbass "project". :D

I also have a couple of questions.

When the ocells arrive i am going to feed them guppies for a starter but as soon as they are hitting the surface i am changeing to shrimps due to price ($5 per guppy) and bloodworms. How long do you think it will take for them to start hitting the surface?

How long will it take the ocells to grow out my 100g if fed well and 50-70% waterchange every week?

Temensis is the largest growing species, will it grow slightly faster than the ocells?

Thanks for all you coming answers.:grinno:

Yes, tem's are fast growers. So stick with ocell's and mono's. I'll say you can keep the ocell's in the 100gal for about a year.

I also want to own some cichla, but I have to upgrade big times before that is going to happen.

$5 per guppy? its gona be expensive feeding them since they each will eat about 2-3 guppies being at 2inch mark per feeding. you cant get regular feeders? comets and rosy reds?

Just say no to Tems unless you have a big wallet. Nothing about them is cheap. They eat alot, and they require enormous housing to be kept properly for a lifetime. 96x48x30 or so is a good START for 1 full grown Tem.

Thanks Venom SS, i will wait with the tems for a while then.

tamzor: I am growing out some livebrearers now, when i need feeders i buy a female full of fry ready to spawn, i get the fry and grow them out.

Good idea, are there any small minnow type fish in a stream or creek that you could net out of the water?

Well there are nicklebacks, but i woulndt trust it, the river could be toxic.

Hi Guys new to all this, I got 2 teminis as a gift from my gf, she paid a pretty penny for them, I've had them for about 10 months and have almost out grown my 180 gallon tank from a 2" fry. I used to feed them blood worms but like to stay away from the live stuff. I feed them hikari food sticks awesome stuff great colors on the fish and easy on the wallet. Good to watch as they smash the surface and they do eat heaps.
