OK cichla geeks, how low can they go? I measured my pond temp today and got 58 deg. I don't have them outside yet but could it be possible?
No, I will not build a green house and no I will not heat it. el natural.

Ever thought about a diy pond solar heater? Like the ones where the panel goes on the roof of the house.

How much would a solar powered heater run though? I had the outdoor bass pond idea but idk that it will work. I live in southern Ohio and I feel like it would be SUPER expensive to keep heated even at 70 in the 20 degree weather we see here in the winter.

Try your cheapest bass for experiment!! I doubt they will survive if temps goes below 60!! If they do they are high prone to disease!

There is only one way to know and that is to try.

I don't think they will survive. You got a 59 degree reading during the day. The tempeture at night will be lower we still didn't get to the cold part of winter. Maybe wait until next year and start them in the pond when it's warm. As the pond cools observe them and see how they are doing.

I think they can!!!! What they cannot tolerate tho is big swings very quikly ....

OK, so put the ugly step kid in and if it hollers then let it go?
