Cichla + Potamotrygon Tank : I need your help in conception

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
pangasius as in the freshwater fish?

Do the wafers get to the panaque?

Good choice in the sand, do you see any waste staying in the bottom? And how do you clean the bottom?

Pangasius as the pangasius filets I find in the local supermarket, in human food, reduced into decent size bites...

the wafers sink and sometimes, Cichla taste one or two before it gets to the bottom, but still enough for the panaques

for the bottom, I have a lot of waste (mainly due to the 10 panaque). I clean in with a PVC suction tube every 2-3 days, like in a "standard" tank... It's all a question of proportions and size... I'll take pictures one of these days...

I'd replace the electrical staff along the front glass, on the ceiling (and not along the back glass)
I'd set up a sunk filter compartement directly into the tank, on a side (and not a gravity filter)
I'd use a bigger and thicker glass to see until the bottom of the tank (and not with a 50 cm high front "wall")
I'd keep a tank compartment for nursery or hospital, separated from the main tank
I wouldn't use any sand on the bottom, just naked floor, big roots and rocks...

Just to be clear, this tank is a blast and I love it !!! For sure !

but I'd take a few "better options" if I could do it again from the start... Everybody's much more clever after such an experience of building...

Ooh yes, all the things I'd change now on my pond :banghead:

But your tank is beautiful! I love it, very awesome :)

thanks all ! that's a very pleasant support to read your comments and opinions...

that's also why I decided to dare such an adventure : to get feed-back and "oh my God it's amazing" reactions  I admit I'm a bit of an egocentric guy ;)

I just read the entire thread. That's quite the fantastic project you pulled off there. I am using a similar set up with terrestial plants. How are your leo's getting to the food before the cichla and arowana pick it all off?
