Cichla problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried to give them blood worm but they declined them. They seem to be very scared all the time haha go figure

Hooray! After missing 2 feedings (yesterdays pm and todays am) 1 of the tems took a pellet. In fact it took 3. Looks like this one will get the head start.

Hahah the last 2 just aint budging. The other guy is twice the size of the other 2. Shows you how nls grow works compared to brine shrimp. In fact the largest one will fill up on nls and ignore his former food. I have went 2 days without feeding brine. The lil 2 will come up to the front of tank when i feed the pellet but will not take it. I fear they will never catch up to the occels. I know the one will thats for sure. On a related note the occels are pigs and eat all day long.

any pics of these little guys?

it took me about a week to train my group of (10) 2" orinos, just kept mixing it with bloodworms and eventually they just started taking the pellets, just for a side note the types of pellets you use does matter, mine will only take hikari floating sticks, i've tried to switch them over to omega one but they won't take any

so 2 of the three are eating nls like crazy! The thirs one is soo tiny compared to the other two. the largest is almost as large as my smallest occel.
i am worried about the third one. Its tiny and it will NOT touch a pellet. It will be starved for 3 days and it will sit there and watch the other two smash every pellet that hits the water. It doesnt even flinch. Its now becoming bullied as well. they dont like it being so skinny. It will only eat brine shrimp still. Its stomach just isnt there. I power fed it alot of brine shrimp tonight. It ate alot.
And i also do not believe they are tems..... which sucks because i would of never bought them. The stripe is only halfway thru the body horizontal. I have since learned it should go to the gillplate. pissed. I am stepping them up to a 100 gallon this weekend and will post pics. The occels are moving into a 180.

the so called "tems' are growing very fast though. The two that are eating pellets anyway. They are about to meet the clown loach army. gonna be a trip for them

Power feed frozen blood worms to build up their belly and appetite. After a few weeks they will go crazy everytime you walk up to the tank and that when you start introducing pellets.

+1000, totally agree with this, works great for me. Get them exited and they compete for food, no mater what it is.
