Put the Kelbs in with the BD pup & add one of the 110's to the 55? that's not a bad idea, but I worry about the pup. Did you realize she is in there? The water is cloudy due to the sand. I have a power head but only my biological filter is running right now so I don't really have much filtration to help with the cloudiness except my water changes...

I didn't forget about the BD pup in the 55g, I was saying put the kels in there also with one of the 110's.....and as far as the 420g you may have to keep doing small waterchanges until you get the mechanical filtration going.

it seems to stay consistently cloudy. I guess that means particles are in the water column...?

Reason I ask bc if it is consistently cloudy then the grainules haven't really bonded.

My 90 a few years back was terrible, what I did was rerinse the sand, net out floating particles that I could, throw a HOB on and sponge the intake, and then used what I believe to be this same product:

My concern however is your livestock vs. what I had. Not sure how safe it would be with a ray, so please research on that. Anyhow, what happened is literally by morning I went from seeing maybe 6 inches back to completely clear and when I had stir ups they only lasted very briefly (seconds)

Did you wash the sand before putting it in the aquarium?

I had put in 1 50 lb. bag of play sand before I found out about pool filter sand. So then I put in 150 lbs. pool filter sand. To be honest, the 1 50 lb. bag I did not wash, but the 150 lbs. of pool filter sand I did... So the 1 bag of play sand might be causing my situation.

Yup.

It's not really a big deal. It will eventually clean up with waterchanges and filtering.

OK. So I got the 2nd (mechanical filter) all hooked up & running good! Here are pics of the finished plumbing: I have a few concerns about if the gravel/glass bead mechanical filter will get the water crystal clear. Does anyone have experience with this & give me some feedback?... Hulon, Ken? I ask b/c my LFS guy seems to think I may not get the very clear water I am hoping for.

Obviously still not a finished product, but I am starting to feel a sense of accomplishment!:

If you look at the first picture you can see how I fed the electrical supply down from the ceiling. I have (2)- 4 outlet boxes attached to underneath the stand...& I attached 2 10 outlet strips to it as well... (I wanted to make sure they were not exposed to potentially get wet).
