Well, I don't know power consumption. They are in my recycling companies office so that was never a concern. The bill goes to my recycling company, not me. But Ken might know the answer to that. I have a 1/4 HP pump going to each of the 2 filters. ONe filter is glass bead for mechanical & the other is media for the biological. Oh yeah, I also have that monster U-V sterilizer…
Ken- WOuld you say this U-V sterilizer could go on my 850 gallon & I could down-size to a smaller model for this tank? I am probably going to mirror the filtration on this tank for my 850; just go bigger. It is just so easy to maintain compared to all my other tanks!
By the way, I really liked the black sand, black background look for my tanks when I was setting up my fish room, but it seems to wash out the cichla colors... where this set-up with natural colors does not. The fish tend to blend to their environment (in my opinion) & my Orino's are less green, kelberi less gold, & azuls more blue in the all black set ups… In regards to the fish in this tank acting the best I believe sometimes it is just contagious in the community for a bunch to act awesome or a bunch to act skittish or boring. These guys really took to their tank & tank mates since they moved into the tank. I also believe the driftwood & other landscape helps tremendously, as well as the flow the filters & circulation pump create. The smaller fish have lots of room & escape routes from the pricks!
