Cichlasoma Dimerus breeding?

It certainly sounds like they're in the process of pairing up, and spawning shouldn't be too far away. When mine first spawned, both male and female were pretty much the same size (2-2.5"). Now, the male is about 25% larger than the female.

Alright thats good! Also what I noticed about those two is that their tails are really yellow!! The other three are not really yellow at all and they have more black blothyness (i don't know how to describe it) body like the pic you posted while all others are a very consistent beige with a tint of blue!

Ours were brought in by a guy named Harold he imports in a lot of fish in Calgary. After talking to my wife she said ours were cichlasoma Bouqurti or something like that was curious because yours look so much like ours. He told her that there are 3 kinds or colors gold, purple and a third don't remember it. He may even have picked his up from Spencer Jack. Our importer also goes by Fairdeal he has been really good so not knocking anyone. Hope we can all find some more info on both of these fish.

If he did get them from Spencer, then you have young from the pair that I showed pictures of earlier in this thread. I supplied Spencer with the 'dimerus' a few weeks back. They were fresh from a summer in my outdoor pond. There aren't different color varieties of this fish. Your wife must have been mistaken about the name 'cichlasoma Bouqurti' since if they were that they wouldn't look anything like yours. exCichlasoma bocourti is a Central American cichlid that gets very large (>12"). I'll include a picture of one of my adults and I think you'll see that they can't be yours. Also, here's a pic I took tonight of (most likely) the parents of your fish.

Mine finally had eggs!! problem is I have a trio and im not sure who is the pair. The largest one is guarding the eggs and the other two just hang out on the other side with no worries in the world. no tubes out but the eggs look kinda brown/ tan and doesnt that mean they are fertilized?

Hey Taylor.The largest one doing the guarding is most likely the male. The odd time my male has kept the female away and has "gone it alone". Tan/brown eggs should be okay, but they start out that way. If after 24 hours or so, if they're still showing no signs of fungusing, they are most likely fertile. Time will tell.

Oh thank you! the next day the female came back and I now have some free-swimming fry! First spawn attempt = not bad! So is this the time I should be extracting them inot a seprate tank and start feeding baby brine shrimp?
