UPDATE - 10/8

I got 8 Fry from BaldTaxMan at the GCCA Swap a couple of weeks ago. (Scott you are too good to me, when will my adoption papers come thru? Ill need to move in to your place!! LOL!!!) They are .5-.75" long and I have lost one to bloat. They are in a 45 L (like a 55, on it's side) and are doing great, but there seems to be 3 of them taking off, and the rest just, growing normally. Do I seperate? I am feeding a combo of Micro Crabs, Crushed NLS, and Crushed Tetra Cichlid Flakes. I am really working between scott and myself to get a couple of pair here out of the 12 we have left. (Scott has 5). I am really trying to help the hobby like the SoCal Boys and a great dude down in the ATL (DarthOdo) to get some females into our hobby and get some fry, start building up this line....

Thoughts Please??

hehe
what kind of thoughts do you want us to provide? :D

i'll be the first to say this - good job, great intentions and all the best in getting a pair. the 'socal boys' are doing good too with their fish. i had three but lost one after returning from a two week business trip. might have been eaten or something... i will never know. but i have a big one that looks like it is probably a male and i have a smaller one that i'm hoping is a girl :)
in any case, yes - it's high time we bring this fish back into the hobby. to all the people interested in this fish; it's very aggressive. my 1.5" 'male' is already chasing his tankmates around behind a divider and shows no fear when i am doing stuff around the tank. this might sound typical, but to me in my 15 years of keeping fish this is one feisty little fish! and i've kept a lot of them :)
but yes, back to the topic at hand - we need this fish back in the hobby. KEEP YOUR FEMALES AND FISH DIVIDED UP! i cannot stress that enough. this fish is very very aggressive. don't get cocky and decide that you have a great pair because everything is hunky dory. you will probably wake up one morning and your female has no scales. so do her and the hobby a favor - insert the plastic / acrylic / glass 'chastity fence :D

hahaha...

Thanks EWOK~

The Dude also provided me that advice @ AT. I would love to mix it up, and get the nutjobs back in the "Game".

The Dude said treat em like haits, and be super, super careful for bloat....Any food advice as well? I have Mysis (Frozen), Blood Worms (Frozen), Krill (Frozen and FD), Brine (Frozen) EnCapsulated Brine (Dry) and the Spirluna Brine (Frozen) as well as NLS, Dianchi, and many good flakes.

Thoughts??

I'm in SOCAL too.

I have 5 growouts (2 at 2" and 3 at 1 1/2") that are doing great in a cichlid community set-up. I feed them hikari freeze dried spirulina/brime shrimp, hikari freeze dried krill, spirulina flakes, and crushed hikari cichlid biogold +. I have a pair too. The male is 5" and the female is 6". They are in the same tank but divided.

I do eight 25% water changes in a month. Water Temperature is between 80-82 degrees. I have them in a 8' 210 g tank.

I fed and feed mine everything. I like keeping the water temp on the mid 80s. Change the water a lot. They are mean as hell, as mean as any fish I've had towards other fish, conspecifics or not. If it moves in the water, it is hated by istlanum.

Ruck~

I consider you one of the SoCal Folks, Just not on my site....LOL!

Darth~

You know I was referring to you.......You don't think a male could be in a 220 (6' Tank) with same size Freddie, Cuban, Mac or the like??

PS: Still loving the Grammodes Brother!!
