Is this recommendation based more on cost/availability or the personality of ornatum? Would you compare their tempermant to that of an ebjd?

All three. Cost is high right now on these guys and as far as availability, the only ones on the market are F0 imports. I've been told they are more on the mellow side compared to Festae so less aggo fish would make better tankmates.

Pool sand filters use what's known as 20-grade silica sand which is capable of trapping tiny 25 to 30 sized micron particles. A micron is one millionth of a meter. So anyway, when you go in, just ask for a bag of filter sand and it will the right stuff. There's only one kind and it looks like this. It's about the size of sugar, maybe bigger, and my cichlids seem to like it.
thank you got a couple of bags today the guy was cool about it and i questioned him regarding pool and aquarium use, got great deal on bags 9.00 each 50lb bags . he actually had pics of his 180 with severums on cell phone.

depending in the crenicichla and the temperment of the indavidual fish, some can be ruthless and some could care less about there tank mates..but they are no push overs they will stick up for themselfs...

I was going to put my pair in with my Angels but when i got them they seemed a liitle bigger than I thought they would be so i placed them in my 125 community tank with Geo Red Tabajos, Oblongums. Geo Pindare, H. Notatus and a lone male P. Menarambo. They seem to be doing pretty well. I'll probably still put them in my Anglefish tank once i figure out how aggressive they are but so far the seem very mellow.

My dad has two of them and one chases the other around a lot but not any of the other fish. We can't wait until they get bigger!

Yeah I can't wait till mine are bigger too. Mine are around 3.5 inches and seem to be doing well in the 125. No aggression issues so far.

I have two mature two year olds living with Festae,Istlantum,Green Terrors and a male Chanco in one 270 gallon tank and one living with Trimacs and Freds in another. In both cases they can hold their own but never start a confrontation. I would describe their behavior as Festae light....

Where did you get them? I don't recall these guys even being available 2 years ago or did you just get them? Can you post some pics? I'd love to see them.
