Cichlasoma salvini question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i am done but the talk is just silly my tiny 2 inch salvini bosses my 4 inch myan

I take it you don't really read what people post?
Let me repeat, perhaps you purchased a "special" Salvini in that it is more aggressive than the norm, it happens. I don't doubt that your Salvini is a beast, however a lot depends on which fish was introduced first, or has an established territory. In other words if you were to put your Salvini in my tank he would probably get killed, since the fish I have are established

Plus you mentioned your Salvini is 2 inches, which tells me you have not had him for long, can't really judge a fish based on it being a juvie, I can almost guarantee that as your Mayan and Salvini grow things will change.

In my experience with the salvini it beat on anything weaker than itself hence why I sold it. Maybe different as it grows since I have seen a female salv co exist with kribs, clown loaches and a bunch of thorycthis in a largish tank (100 gal?)

Perfect point, for the most part you can gauge a cichlid's aggression-a given that Dovii, Umbee, Beani are psychos for the most part. In the case of fish like Salvini, Convict, or an Mbuna a lot of times depends on that particular fish's personality. Great point :)

I have kept these since I was a kid I have two now in seperate six foot tanks and they are the worst of the worst I keep replying when people make stupid assumptions. I have said my experience now move on no need to address me. Maybe my sals all I have had are the exception is a beautiful fish.

My old 7 inch male was always picking fights, eventually my female biffa backed down to him and non stopped harassed her till I moved him, if I didn't intervene he would of killed her. I personally think they work alright with larger fish that are able to put them in there place but not with fish they maybe able to dominant imo.

My bad you seem to contradict yourself. I only say this because in another post on this thread you mentioned your Salvini was two inches and was beating on a 4 inch Mayan, maybe I read wrong and need to look again, LOL. BTW, and yes Salvinis are beautiful fish.
