they were both picked up at Big Als in Canada the colours on the male in the pic don't do him justice. If you have Conkels cichlids of north and Central America he looks a lot like the syn in that book a smaller pic from a specific river the thing about syns is they can have a lot of colour variation from differant locals

hi there i rescued a 14" synspilum from where i worked and keep him in a 100gal tank, hes a bit psycho but hes ok with smaller fishes like Oscar and JD juvs anything like a sev full grown, he killed instantly but since has calmed down he just ignores the clarias cafsih when it trys to push him around the tank pretty funny to watch
