im a complete novice when it comes to breeding, especially cichlids. i really wanna know what cichlids can crossbreed? i know theres parrots and flowerhorns but what are they breed from? also can american and african cichlids crossbreed at all? if not why? but specifically can oscars breed with anything? thanks in advance if theres already a thread for this sorry but i couldnt find it

I don't know of anything that Oscars can cross with. As far as hybridization goes, I believe the determining factor is how close of a lineage the two fish share.

Search the hybrid forum. There is a thread filled with pictures of all kinds of cichlid hybrids.
Dont randomly breed fish. The quality hybrids are "refined" products of a breeding process trying to create a deliberate end project.

true but that deliberate idea spawned from some one like mejust breeding different fish to see what happens, as unscientific as it sounds all it takes is trial and error

If it was that easy.....There are people in Asia right now splicing genes in a high tech lab to get crazy colors and glowing fish and who knows what else. They know what they're doing. They created a Flowerhorn by mixing certain S.A.fish. How long does trial and error take? They are farrrr ahead. It sounds like fun,but you might find it more rewarding to breed a rare or endangered species,to help save or better the species by selective breeding. This,in my opinion would be a great first step in learning about the process of breeding.

If you are novice then my advice is dont try it unless u can breed same breed. They are too much things to know about crossing different fishes. Dont try oscar waste all your time and no result.
