Both my Paratilapia and my Datnoid are now doing this thing where it looks as if they are coughing or spitting when I come up to the tank to feed them, They will no longer eat pellets (they spit them out) but will still eat shrimp or bloodworms in small amounts. They are also acting listless, hanging around the bottom all day.
BACKSTORY: last year my female paratilapia had this same situation so I quarantined her and tried everything under the sun to cure her. Assuming it was internal parasites i started out with Jungle Parasite Tabs, for two weeks with no result. I then tried Metro, Prazi-pro, clout (maybe it was bacteria?) And Levermasole . No results. Eventually i just used epsom salt and kept the water very clean. she stayed in quarantine for 4 months! She did eventually get better to the point where she would eat pellets and behave normally again. I returned her to the tank where she was fine for many months.
Fast forward to January and I noticed the same symptoms in my Vieja Synspilum and my prized Aequidens Diadema. Both stopped eating spit when they seen food and became listless. Both have since died despite my quarantining them and treating them again. Now the Dat and both Paratilapia have it.
I have no idea what this disease is or how to cure it, i have searched the web and the only matches i found all ended with the fish dieing.
Im hoping somebody has seen this before or has a new idea because im out of ideas.

Just going off what I read it sounds like it could be viral.

Check for white or clear stools. Could be parasites like gill flukes. When you did the treatment, did you also complete a big water change (thins out the pathogen population) then, perform water changes every 2-3 days and remedicating with a full dose? Finally, did you treat for the full 10-14 days or quit meds as soon as symptoms abated?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any stools really because the fish aren't eating. When i was treating the female paratilapia last year i do remember white feces though, thats why i assumed it was an internal parasite. I always do a large water change/gravel vac after every medication. Also with the Levermasole I put carbon in the filter to remove any extra medication. I normally treat the tank twice to be sure. I have also googled alot of the meds because the instructions on the bottles rarely matches up with the info on the internet. I normally do 2 waterchanges a week.
From what i understood i thought the jungle parasite clesr tabs would have worked on gill flukes because they contain praziquantel? At this point im just doing constant water changes because nothing has worked and I dont want to stress the already fish any more then i have too.
Very frustrated.

I don't think this sounds parasitic at first blush it would, I agree, but after reading the full discription it doesn't. Try treating with vitamin c and B6 along with twice weekly 50% water change for a month. I can't promise it will work but it wouldn't hurt either.

I have never heard of dosing with vitamins, I will definitely try that. Thanks.

I've use liquid baby vitamins, you can get them at the drug store.

Freshwater fish don't drink water so put a couple drops on what ever food you use and let them soak in. Let the fish get hungry and feed it to them.

i would go with what aqua says but i would also like to mention one more thing. I have paratilapia and i noticed one day after i did a large water change they were doing this. I then realized my tank dropped 10 degrees suddenly. When you go through your water changes try to maintain a constant temperature .this will help with stress
