Cichlid dithers

For me male and female jack dempsey in my 55 gallon what would be the best dither? They aren't breeding yet, so I don't think I would need a target.

I have Bala Sharks in my 92g as dithers but quite frankly, they are close to outgrowing the tank. The good thing about them is that they are big enough not to be lunch. In fact, they actively compete at feeding time and are not easily bullied. But they do get big...

Ive used silver dollars for years now. They are pretty durable. I do agree with the other comments on the aggressive feeding habits, this can scare some of the other fish.

I have 5 silver dollars, nice size, in my 125 with four nice size cichlids...no problems...they are not too skittish anymore. They just go to whatever side of the tank my hand isn't in lol.

I am using Banded Leporinius for my big Beani tank and they can take a lot of damage and survive. Tinfoil barbs and silver dollars are good as well. Leporinius grow to 12" plus and usually pretty cheap. Just my .2 cents.

Tinfoil barbs are the best dithers for me based on experience. They are bullet-proof and are a good clean up crew as they eat everything. Pretty colorful, too. They even come in albino and leucistic varieties. They are an interesting show to watch in my school of 9. They grow large too as much as 14".

I have bala sharks but I have severums so not really aggressive

One more vote for giant danios. Fast as lightning and they stay at the top of the tank.

Silver dollars are easily spooked in my experience. I grew tired of them crashing into the sides and top if startled.

Just to add about silver dollars, I made a similar thread and some one said that his Armatus impaled a sd... Yes a payara with huge fangs impaled a sd and the sd was fine within a few days. The fang went straight through too :)
