  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My females fight over males frequently it seems, or it could just be a heirarchy thing but it does seem they fight over the males for sure!!

Just from the video they looked like males but hey i could be wrong it wouldn't be the first hehehe.. but here is a sample of venting..

Male vent holes oo
Female vent holes 0o

At any rate this is what it should look like.. cool video my friend..

I have seen that before (Male oo Female oO) on here.
I got that info on some thread here and that is why I believed they were both female.

I am not sure what they were doing in that video, but one is holding now so unless the world is on its head and males are holding now...

...from what I can tell they are both females (oO)

here is the link to the media lounge that has a video of the holding female where I will keep updates on her 1st broods progress.

should be fine, mine do it a lot.

mostly fish of the same breed but there is one fish that kind of puffs up his colours and fins and tries with any near by cichlid.

I think its a sign of showing dominacne or maybe even the initial breeding signs?

Im not too sure but i watch it daily in my tank and slowly but surely as the fish get older, more of them have a turn

I used to have several Electric Yellows, and I noticed my females would often spar as well. It happened more frequently when one was holding. I assumed that the one that was holding was sending a message to the one that was not holding, to keep away from her babies. Women! will we ever figure them out?:screwy:

looks like a mating ritual...wonder who won.. because they look like they were pretty even ... great video..did things calm down now?

Mine do the same thing but none have ever died!

This is very typical behavior for the EL's. I would not worry but I enjoyed the "ring around the rosey" theatrics. They are just establishing a hierarchy or territory.

Nice video!
