Cichlid for 65G...ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 65G planted aquarium I would like to continue my cichlid addiction in. Only tankmates are some Boes Rainbows and a pair of BNs. Would like something atleast 5-6". Already have Rainbow Cichlids and Firemouths so wouldn't be interested in more Thorichthys.

I do have a Red Spot Sev....but would be open to a single male Heros of another type. Basically I want a single display cichlid which wont maul tough low light plants or kill my Boes. I am having trouble thinking outside the box on this as I want something "different". This tank sits in my living room so the fish also needs to be personable.

Please no angelfish....I spawned them for years and am just over them. lol
A Severum?

Oops! Missed the "Sev" in the OP..

I would be open to a different Heros than my Red Spot Sev. Maybe a H.notatus?

Still liking the Uaru idea...anyone have luck keeping them solo?

Gymnogeophagus balzanii??? I loved mine until my female GT turned psycho and killed her. She was very docile. Had her w/ Mollys, Platys, Fancy Guppys, TBs, Leopard/Zebra Danios, Corys a few other small peaceful SA cichlids, then I moved them all into a SA-cichlid community thinking she would be tough enough for a small female GT, but I was sadly mistaken :(

Could also a few pairs of Rams or Cockatoos or some type of Dwarfs

Also smaller Cichlasoma species

C.bocourti would fit my bill nicely however about half my references state they get 8" the other half is up to 12". Obviously 12" fish would be too large but something around 8" would be fine. Any actual experience with size? I assume gender plays a big role in this as well.

Rots are really awesome and a fish I'd like to own again, certainly something to consider.
