Can a Eureka mate with the fish ? ...more red the better ...or am i going to have to get 2 eureka of the same type ?

you can cross any peacock but kinda frowned on with most. If want to breed then breed the pure, true peacocks. Get one male & 3-5 females for a breeding group. Make sure the females go with the same male species. Or just buy 5-7 young of a species & raise them. Its also good to introduce new blood (females) from another source as long as they are pure so when they breed you have less possibility of getting deformed fishes inter breeding.

AH cool i just watched your video Nice place you have there if i ever get down to Ohio I will def stop by looks great ....keep up the good work :).
thank you for the advice on the breeds and breeding.

May i ask why would it be Frowned on ?

well its a hot topic across the board. As with you not knowing what you have & some breeders, farms (Asia) do not care as long as they get a look & can make money off it? Or someone like you thinks he has a pure bred species & breeds it then takes it to the lfs for credit & the store that may not know much about the breeds of certain cichlids & sells it as what you thought was pure then the next person buys what they thought was a pure cichlid & next thing you know there is fish out there that are nothing like the pure true fish from the wild then we do not know what we have anymore. Some day we may not have some of the wild stock so it would be nice to say we have some captive fish that are still around that you can not see or get from the wild anymore.
Now do not get confused with line breeding! People attend to think this is hybrids & it is not. Line breeding is typically to develop or get a certain trait in a particular strain of fish. Example the ruby, rubescent, german red peacocks are all pretty much the same fish that derived from a sunshine/baenschi or marleri peacock to produce the color strain. Just like all you angel fish out there all crazy colors but are all still angel fish just bred for longer fins or a color type?

heres a good reference for cichlids

The peacock in the first pic is hybrid for sure! It looks like a cross from either a Red Shoulder or an Ngara to a red empress even though the empress is a malawi hap.

The second pic is definately a victorian hap, dont know the type for sure.
