Not true...females will often sift substrate around just as much as males. It could still be a male though...Do you just have the one? Because a solo male will take much longer to colour up - he has no females to impress or other males to compete with.
 
Looks like a young male to me, but I have seen females with that same tint of yellow, might be still to young to tell... :thumbsup: but kenyi fosho!!! :thumbsup:
 
If your fish has made a nest I would say it is more than likely a male. I have yet to see a female do this! They all sift through the sand I have in my tank, pick up and drop immediately, but only seen males move the gravel around. With my greshakei I used to fill up the work he did until he started to carry the gravel to the far parts of the tank. Would at times swim to the other side of the tank before dropping the gravel bits.

cool fish for sure. mines never been mean at all, but considering his tank mates id say thats just because hes smart not because hes unaggressive.
