Hey guys i need a little help ID'ing this african. He was in a mixed tank when I got him. Is he a hybrid? Or what species is he. And if he is a hybrid does this make him less "cool" or of less value then specifically bred cichlids? Thanks so much for any help!

yeh maybe its a bee...why not buy cichlids from a reputable breeder? that way you know what your getting. most will sell mbuna fry for a few dollars each and usually top quality.
IMO i can not stand seeing hybrid africans. no point in it. they have evolved over millions of years to be the way they are now. perfect and beautiful.

yeah,right. even 'reputable' dealers don't always know what they have.......and of course,they sell hybrids.Heck,doesn't every store sell hybrids?
haha sorry guys, guess im trying to rid the hobby of hybrid and unknown africans 1 fish at a time. knowledge is power boys! no need to be handing over your hard earned dollars to a guy who could care less about the fish and who only cares about making a buck. id rather give my money to someone who has a love for the fish and goes to great lengths to keep strains pure.
i dont know who you guys are dealing with but their not "reputable" if their selling hybrids or fish that they cannot id.
a reputable breeder' (im not talking stores or dealers) but i guess the same would go for them; is someone who probably has invested in some good wild caught stock and and keeps them in a species breeding tank as to not run risk of them crossbreeding. can tell you anything you want to know about the fish they are selling. give your money to them... idk...you can do what you want.
i must be lucky to live where i do because there are tons of great breeders in this area. you can name just about any african and i can send you to a guy who has the best fry around. no need to go to a store with marked up prices and god only knows what swimming around in their tanks. jus sayn
I'm not sayin your a nazi,but when you say 'pure' strains and he don't care cuz he breeds hybrids,it makes you sound like one.jus sayin.get off your high horse.I'm not sayin you have something stuck in your arse,but it 'sounds' that way.
