well lets think about this, If fish have been crossbreeding or "evolving" into what they are now dont you think its going to keep happening in the lakes!!! I would say so!! I also would rather buy a pure species african ciihclids but coming from someone with flowerhorns i am all for hybrids especially if they look good!!!

Agreed, good point. Not only do african cichlids crossbreed with similar species in some of our tanks, they also do so in the wild
...but what species of african cichlids are "pure" or not crossbred? NONE really....african rift lake cichlids are one of the fastest evolving fish and have been crossbreeding in the wild for generations and generations to become what they're today
If crossbreeding can occur in a relatively poorly simulated natural environment known as the aquarium...what is to stop it in the wild?
And if you want to really get technical.....should they even be considered different species if they are in fact able to mate with each other?
Isnt the primary differentiation of species the inability to create fertile offspring?
