Somebody said "clearly Oscar" My words exactly. Nothing like them out there.

I voted Oscar as soon as I saw the poll.

the smartest individual fish I ever owned was Steatocranus irvini,

a rare and small cichlid but super Intelligent. I kept one that actually would arrange shells into homes and would recognize various colored containers as favored foods.

(even though they may be color blind)

Plus it knew the sound of the aquarium lid opening meant food time. (as opposed to oscars contant begging)

Other than that..... Oscars.

Red Devils a close runner up IMO

Smartest fish species.. I would guess Blennies Or Jawfish.

Oscars display so much personallity, and its not just when it comes to food.Think of all the sulking and temper tamptrums they throw.

Iif ever oscar does those same thing how is that personality? Seriously, the bulk of them all beg, sulk, attack heaters, move gravel etc. They all do it so their personality traits aren't unique to the individual fish. IMO personality is something unique to individuals.

i've seen two adult red devils, and three adult oscars, and i've gotta say that the red devils seemed to notice me more than the oscar, however, the oscars were in very small tanks as well.

oh ya, someone said something about comeing to the top of the tank when the lid opened. my jewel cichlids do that and my blood parrots are starting to do it also. so ha;)

my jag was by far the most intelligent fish.he would watch and stare at every move my family made.My daughter would stick her tongue at at him and he would crash and bang the glass to get at her, when she stopped he would stop.
