i have an oscar named tigris and he is shy around other people except for me! he will only eat out of my hand and when i leave and my mom feeds him he hides and pouts because im gone! so i think, for my fish at least, he recognizes me. he likes my girlfriend too but he is still a bit shy around her!

Heck yeah your fish can recognize their owners. My Lyonsi definitely only gets excited seeing me cause he knows I bring the food. Anyone else he ignores, but when I get close he swims up to the surface and does the happy cichlid food dance. My Armatus does it too, he totally gets all twitchy and swims to the surface when I get close and ignores everyone else. Except my eldest daughter who feeds him rat pups from time to time.
Fish can definitely recognize their owners. I've had friends over that would try to hand feed my fish but they just wouldn't take the food. However, When I step over they all rush up to the surface and literally try to jump at me.

hah! so cool to see so many owners with fish who recognize them. my fish, as well, will only eat from my hands and get very excited when they distinguish me versus my boyfriend or brother. every single fish in my oddball tank will come up to the front to stare back at me when i stand there. they seem less interested if someone else shows up- probably because they know i am the food-lady. maybe it's the rainbow hair i always have, not sure XD
