Cichlid pair in 125g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I don't mind a divider for the pair but i don't want to upgrade the tank size (I'll need a divider from my wife). Good call on the saggitae I like those a lot as well. I will look into them more and from what I saw they tend to be more out and social then the devil/midas I guess.

I had a Lyonsi in my 125 and the tank was too small. The fish fit, but anytime he went into a mood, there was no place for the other fish to go. 125's kinda small. Mine is 18 inches wide.

Thought Lyonsi got like 10". Not that Agression wouldn't be a problem but I don't get how the 18" would be a limiter. Don't mean this is a rude way, just seeking to understand.

If ops lyonsi got as large as ragins it would barley fit the tip of its mouth and tip of its tail would touch the tank walls (front and back)

It fit the tank more or less, kinda. But when it got mad, it would park in the middle of the tank and no fish could get by it. He would dig a tremendous hole under a stump in the middle of the tank, get in his hole, and all the fish were one end of the tank or the other. And they get bigger than 10 inches, too--and fast. They need some room. I was growing out the Lyonsi with a Zonatus, a Syn, a Breidohri. The Lyonsi outgrew 'em all before I could get a bigger tank and he started getting crazy. He eventually slammed his head on the lid and died. He was a piece of work.

And they're not nice peaceful fish, either. I've heard that Lyonsi are a peaceful version of a Trimac, but that ain't sayin much.

i agree with you there my male lyonsi was a real glass banger, he was about 10/11 inch and built like a brick

Yes, indeed. I forgot to mention that--thick. Stout. Like a fullback.

I can't find any thing on size.comparison between the saggitae vs the midas and red devil? Do all 3 grow to the same size? I see that the saggitae is more stream line between the 3, and I assume the midas is the thickest of the bunch as well.
