festaes are out for him. hellmans a friend of mine and we share the same views on festaes. "Lots of color but lacks personality"

Not just that they lack of Personality its just the fact that in my area they are so many now not as hard to find anymore in my area easy to get a hold of AquaMonster and my self are more in to the fish that are harder to find in our area and have Personality. If anyone has any other Ideas please tell me because as of right now i am thrown between 3 Pairs that I want to keep i want to do a cuban pair, a Lyonsi pair or a Grammode pair the more time i have to think about it the harder it is for me to decide thats why i am looking to MFK to help me a ittle but no one is really helping to much Please help a little more with all the yrs here in this site the more help the better it is for me and my buddy to pick a pair. We both have the same ideas and would like to keep similar fish but i need your help picking out i like all 3 more then any other fish

You guys should have met my male! LOL...

Dont get us wrong Rich_One we love Festaes they are beautiful looking fish and all but they are just way to common now you know what i mean. Lyonsi are awsome looking fish and stay small that i Know and they are endangered which sucks for a beautiful looking fish i just need people to agree on one fish thats why i am doing the poll i have had a week to think about it as i have my tank being cleared of ammonia before i order any fish. i will not but any fish in my tank till i know it is cleared and a healthy tank. I know i have enough filtation i have 2 marineland 400 bio wheel and i also have a casade 1200 canister filiter

Well, I was just commenting on them not having any personality. I think mine had plenty personality. And yes... festae are a lot more common now.

You'll never get people to agree on one fish. Too many people, too many cichlids, too many different tastes, and people go for different things. Some people are only interested in what is rare. Some, color. Some, personality. Some people choose a fish for no other reason than it's mean. Some like easy breeders, some like to be challenged. Some people like to buy expensive fish... just because they can.

All I'm trying to say here is, the polls are cool... and I will alway share my opinion when asked. But at the end of the day, there is no poll that is going to tell you the fish YOU like. That will take time... experiences... trying different fish. You guys will get it figured out sooner or later. It'll be interesting to see what you guys utlimately decide on. Good luck on finding the right fish for you!

Thanks for that rich I understand that i think i am gonna go with cubans i know more about them then the others. I just need to get more info on them but i also want info on the Lyonsi and the Grammodes too just in case where is the best way to find all the info on here or other sites

I use a combination of things to get my info. Forums, such as this. Google... or your personal favorite search engine. I am a member of a club local to me known as the Capital Cichlid Association (CCA). Joining a local club is a great resource. Not only do you probably get to hear some great speakers at meetings, if you have a good one... but you get to get some awesome cichlids most times, at a fraction of what you'd buy them for elsewhere, often times. Club memberships can give you a perfect combination of information and opportunity.

Anyway... that's my two cents.

I vote....... Lyonsi all the way! My little ones are still babies but they greet me everyday and are very responsive and funny as hell to watch. Some very entertaining fish!

I'd go Trimacs.

Now that that's out of the way, how many of these threads are you going to make on the same topic before you come to a decision? There's been at least 5 of damn near the exact same thread over the past week on this topic.

Islantum - they are the only species you listed that I haven't kept yet.
They are also one that I am planning to get some soon.
