Jeez! DC is full of Flowerhorns.

The rumor is that the fish were dropped into the tanks as juvies by visitors and the zoo has a no kill policy on animals in their exhibits. The tanks are all open topped and there is a rain forest exhibit above the tanks that you can walk through. One of the other tanks has a breeding population of dovii in with the aripimas, red tail cats and pacu. The rtc's are huge. Probably close to 4 feet long.

Thanks for the comments guys. These pictures probably represent about 5% of all the aquarium pics I've taken over the years. You're right, cichlids are very underrepresented.

I was suprised to see the FHs at National, but the largest orange one was incredibly personable. It made me think he'd been a pet at some point in his life. As I circled the tank he followed me the whole time, and would stay right up at the glass, facing me.

The Sajica at Newport was a nice surprise to see. :) I'm glad you all liked him too.

i gotta get down to ppg aquarium in pittsburgh. they have some huge midas" and a male dovii that will blow your mind. I just gotta new camera so that gives me a reason to go back

Awesome, thanks for sharing. You must do alot of traveling.

Haha not much... all of these places are close to family members so I just go when I visit them.

I need to go back to Shedd, I remember they had a nice RD tank but they all seem to be getting old and raggedy looking.

Yea, you always see the rift lake fish or the amazon biotopes but rarely if ever do you see any centrals. That big fat t-bar is awesome!

I wish your would see more CA displays at public aquariums. Every public aquarium I have been to has RD/midas in their SA displays. Why do they all do this?
