I think first try to take the rock out and shake it and get the sucker our he got in surely he can squeeze out. If not out some water in a bucket and shake that guy out. Still doesn't come out get a Dremel or a hammer and break the rock
breeder net will work so you don't have to stress him again by making him re-acclimate to new tank/water. Definitely want to keep him separated until he not only heals, but is eating regularly tooWell I got him out finally after cracking open the rock he looks beat to hell but he's breathing and swimming upright now he was swimming sideways when I first put him back in the tank. I'll put him in a small quarenteen for awhile and let him heal some

damn.....it took 2 years for the scales to grow back??????????The first (and thankfully only) time this happened to me was about two years ago. My male SD got stuck in a fake log and couldn't get out, it took my cousin and I about 10 mins of "arguing" with the log to get my fish back. He was scrapped almost completely of his scales and his fins were virtually non existent. A few months and lots of clean water later and he was fine. Now you'd never guess that two years ago he was scaleless and finless.
Good luck with your cichlid, I want updates on his recovery.![]()
