G'day guys. Happy new year...

I now have the 4' tank i've benn waiting on and now i'm thinking of stocking ideas. I'm am considering doing a small central american cichlid community. CA cichlids have always been a favourite so naturally :grinno:.

I was thinking of 2 or 3 pairs of smaller central american cichlids, and a lone big fish to hopefully stop any potential agression.

The problem for the small cichlids are going to be finding them in Australia. I was thinking of any of these fish for the smaller cichlids. Firemouth, T.passionis, Nicaraguense, Sajica, or Cutteri.

For the bigger fish I was thinking of a single specimen of one of these species. Synspillum, EBJD, Salvini, Freddy, or (jag or mota).

Tell me please which will be the best 2 combos you can come up with. So I have some choices still.

Personally I would try 1 Firemouth pair, 1 Nicaraguense pair and a single Motaguense. These are all colour-motivated choices though. Or what about a single Synspilum pair? They are phenomenal as adults.

That was the first 'rough idea' I came up with for this tank. And the good thing is, those, I know where to find. But I would like two choices Plz

1 pair of thorichtys maculipinnis ( ex T.ellioti )
1 pair of cryptoheros spilurus
1 pair of cryptoheros nanoluteus

a single Theraps Lengtinosus

It would be hard find such fsih but would be a nice setup. Although I might change the T.ellioti for some T.passionis. Unless the setup you mentioned is a biotope? Then I would definantly try.

I have to admit I love the look of theraps lentiginosus. How big does it get?

Also, these fish will be with a pair of snakehead gudgeons as well, so they really need to be 15cm+

dont know if its biotopical correct. if you want more colours in the tank then you can skip the spilurus for multispinosas. they look incredible in breeding dresses and I guess they are more common. I suggest that you check NUTTYs tankthread for inspiration.

My sources says that they get to about 25 cm. what the tank size? 120 50 50 cm?
