Cichlid tank stock list??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hmm lots of conflicting answers lol il see what ones i can get my hands on, might lose the texas and the silver dollars il see how it looks

I would get your 5 cichlids and a pack of silver dollars small and see your options as they grow up. If you find yourself not changing enough water or something, you can always reduce stock later. Just keep an eye on the water quality.

As for temperament, the fish you listed, a 125 is sufficient size for them not to be overtly aggressive.

Conflicting answers come because there are many factors to consider.
The size of your new fish are unknown, your water change schedule is unknown, and many fish have different personalities, especially cichlids, which are more highly evolved than simple "fish".
If all the fish are small (@3") and if they are all added at the same time, the 125 will be sufficient for a while.
If they are adults, that is a different story.
If you do 1 water change per month, the 125 is too small for only but a few fish.
If you do 2 or 3 partial (30% or more) water changes per week, the tank could be fine, if fish personalities are copacetic.
Some people believe old world and new world cichlids shouldn't be mixed, some do.
I mix them all the time, but always have another tank at the ready in case things go wrong.

iv got another tank at the ready, i will be getting them all small and letting them grow up together so hopefully no problems, the only ones that will be larger will be the silver dollars and the featherfin. my filter is good and at the start i will be doing a water change every 2 weeks. then i shall up it accordingly as they grow. hopefully it will work. if not i can always re-home some.

1) jewel fish, while from Africa, is not from lake Malawi
2) potentially yes, it can. But unless you have a bare tank, an alert jewel will not be caught by an Oscar unless it was sick etc.
