Cichlid VS Crayfsih

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright, well I was bored and went for a drive.

At a LFS I passed by I went in and found the perfect fish, one I've actually been looking to get for a few months now. I ended up scraping the Cichlid idea and went for an African Butterflyfish instead.

It's just over 3" long and looks incredible, plus I don't have to worry about any conflict! :D

Even though I didn't really use it, thanks for the help anyways guys lol.

that should work okay they should stay away from each other

For future reference i wouldn't recomond large cichlids with cray fish all of my large cichlids LOVE crayfish but not as tankmates once the crayfish molts it will be an eazy target

Red bay snook get about 18 inches or so. Way too big for a 40.

Yeah that's a good point, I've already gone through that and I wouldn't feel like quarantining it every few months just for that.

I put two BIG wild caught crayfish in with my wild caught Texas Cichlid Male. This was the biggest of the two at 8 inches:

This is my 13 inch Texas Cichlid, he's kinda like a Marine, He KILLS everything he sees, including a big old sissy crayfish:

The pictured crayfish lasted almost 4 months while hiding under a big rock in the tank. One day, he made the mistake of venturing out for a walk. He was quickly dismembered and his corpse scattered about the tank. The other smaller crayfish lasted about 8 months but he too must have ventured out as I found only a claw the next morning. :irked: My Texas Cichlid likes being left alone. He even killed his girlfriend:

you will need at least a 125 gallon tank for a single red snook
huh? I was at petsmart today and the sign there said snook only get up to 8", Same with RD's. JD's and GT's only get up to 6"

;)

I think they post smaller sizes to sell more fish to people who don't know any better.

Yeah, that's pretty much the idea unfortunately. :(

They sell the snook for 29.99 in my local petsmart, so even though the information on the labels is wrong, the majority of people who buy fish at petsmart aren't going to fork over 30 bucks on a fish. Most keep smaller community tanks and would rather buy a bunch of 2 or 3 dollar fish instead.
