firemouths are generally more peaceful then most of its cousins, however, they do sometimes act out, this is the only reason i do not suggest tetras. i had a firemouth kill its tankmates a while back, and i too was nder the impression they were "peaceful". so, not to say it "couldnt" work, i just personally wouldnt do it.
its a very common misconception. nothing to apologise about my good sir. while they are "generally recognized" as a species only fish, they have also been successfully kept with some others. i personally have kept them with ottos, cories, loaches, and pleco. and they are also found in the same waters as a couple of other tetras. again, its not "reccommended", but definitely possible.
