Cichlids getting sick and dying daily, need help to cure the problem.

No do the test now before the water change. otherwise you'll have incorrect data. for example, IF the issue was, this is hypothetical, high nitrates and you did a water change then did the test the parameters would rule out nitrates because the nitrates would be lower. follow? best of luck

The symptoms are to problem I noticed, then the fish dies within the day it is swimming upside down.

Symptoms:
- yellow green hue on their side, where the stomach is located.
- swimming upside down
- swimming upside right under the surface

Water parameters I don't know off hand would have to do a test now. I want to do another large water change today, so after that I would do the test/

How big is the tank? Do you have pics?

Thank you for all the responses. I havent had time, which sucks, to take care of my tank or even look at it yesterday or today. I hope no other fish have died.

Its a 55 gallon tank. Had it running for 2 years and 5 months ago swapped the fish for the ones I currently own. I should have time tomorrow to do a test and then another water change.

I will say that theres a high probably my water results are not close to what they should be , but will only know for sure tomorrow.

Stupid question, how would I know if they are bloated?

They don't look fat or puffy, if thats what you are asking.

I should also mention, that it all started after one fish had a concave stomach that was the first death.

I havent had a chance to do another real water change. I changed some water today and cleaned out the filter.
I think I have not had any more deaths which is a good thing. I might be able to get some Epsom salt to add to my tank today.

Test results for this morning before any water change. ( Might be off since I use empty bottles for my test. Broke all my tubes)
Ammonia - .5
Nitrate - 10
Nitrite - 0

I know I have to do at least another 40% water change. Daily 20% water changes till my levels go down to 0.

I did neglect doing a real cleaning of the tank for 2 weeks to a month. Prior to that it was weekly 40% changes, because I had fish only a few months old.

I run my siphon over the sand. Then keep it in every place for a few seconds. Once a month I stir up all the sand and clean the tank after a few hours when everything has settled.

My filter. I take out the sponges and squeeze them in a bucket of tank water.

I also feed every other day.
