CICHLIDS IN FLORIDA RIVERS?

It is Gods way of trying to clean up some of the mistakes that people have made...just like disease, population control, etc, but this is definitely not the place for that.

I think all these fish would be cool to see in fl but any invasive species just doesnt belong
 
the story with the snakehead investation is that a guy bought a few to release into the wild as a chinese ritual . at least thats one of the documented sources. lol ..some ppl!!

holly cow, look at the color and the hump on this guy! Did you keep it?

I wonder if any of them escaped from all those fish farms. Not saying they did....just a possibility.

yeah actually i think that is where some of them came from, from what iv heard when it floods down there then the fish can get not only into a diff fish's pond but can also make it to the local waterway, which is also why its hard for fish farmers to prevent having the occasional hybrid, but i think for the most part it is from people getting these monsters for their kids or themselves finding out how big they get and just releasing it since thats the easiest thing for them to do when the fish is too big for them to flush

Na, I didnt keep him, I don't keep fish this big, you dont put a wild fish larger than 12 inches in a tank cause it takes some time for them to calm down and they will stress out alll your fish and knock down all the deco, I keep small fish so they can grow up as tank fish, also I try to put them in at night so my fish as well as the one going in is calm.
And when it comes to the fish farms, pbass were introduced by FWC to keep back the numbers of Mayans, tilapia, and other invasives in our waters, reportedly its been quite successful.

You saw a big male tilapia mossambicus, big blue, and you were excited. No dovi there, just tilapia.
 
One thing I want to add Yes this big frezz has killed many if the intruduced snakes in the south. It's been bad for crops good for cutting Down the intruduced animal problem.

The snake head thing was yes the tradition but also they'd were being brought over for food. It was not the fish hobby people that intruduced these fish it was them being brought over as food. They could live with little water when shipped. So they stay fresh. Fresh fish is good eatting. These fish and live out of water for a good amount of time and flap there way to water. Some would get lose too.

Are we allowed to add links to other forums? Because this kid on another forum has lots of photos of the fish he catches dipnetting and photos of dipnettig after the frezz it's gross.

Realy oscars taste good???

I agree. There fillets are white and flakey. They fry up real nice:naughty:. They are supposed to be a local favorite in SA as well. Lots of fishermen in florida eat them. A lot of them don't even know what they are. They are just another tasty sunfish to most people down there.
 
^ I remember seeing pictures in discus books of collectors cooking and eating them with the local fishermen in SA. I can't imagine there's too much meat on a discus. :D
