Cichlids in outdoor ponds

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh wow great info. The carpintis I have out there are doing extremely well. I'm running a pond pump for circulation and some sponge filters and air pumps. I'm planning on having a sump with bog filtration and waterfall soon. Theres a few koi in the pics too

I see Gruff, thanks. My dogs will attack anything that moves in are yard, but I still worry about racoons taking my tortoise :(

Freebyrd, do you have a FPS? (Full pond shot :P) And that water looks clean enough to drink, btw

yeah freebyrd, that is nice.I will say,I dont have the best filtration in my pondbut I do get amazing results anyway. The sun must have something to do w/it.

Raccoons have been my worst problem, they get the cichlids when they are sleeping, eat the heads off and leave the body, they also eat water hyacinth floats, and trash the water lilys. Going to dig it deeper with steep sides next year.

Whoa very nice. I feel like the sun plays a big part as well its so exhilarating to see them playing in the sun darting around at lightening speeds, its almost as if they really are in the wild and much happier. I watched a carpintis stalk an insect tonight that was flying above the waters surface when it landed that was all she wrote that bug was history! I don't live to close to woodland areas so hopefully I won't have raccoon problems as I'm lucky if I see any other wildlife than birds and frogs
