Cichlids in Planted Ripariums

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks so much Sue. Really maintenance for this one is pretty easy. Since the plants all grow above the water I do not have so much trouble with algae as can sometimes happen with regular planted tanks. I do find the plants to be very relaxing. Most of them have fine foliage and soft green colors. The fish, on the other hand, are pretty hyperactive.

Your plants are extremely healthy looking. Any secrets?

Also Hydro, pehaps you'll know since you seem to be a "plant guy" (haha!). Any idea where I can acquire giant valllisneria? Most of the giant val I get online or elsewhere isn't very healthy. Sorry for the derail!

Hey thanks again very much. Well as for secrets I think that these emergent riparium plants are somewhat easier to keep than fully aquatic aquarium plants. For one thing, they don't suffer from algae the way underwater plants can. They also seem somewhat less susceptible to nutrient deficiencies, so fert dosing is less demanding.

I have looked around some and don't see any giant val anywhere. You might have your best luck with a WTB thread over in the PlantedTank.net/forums Swap n Shop forum.

They are al beautiful. I love correctly planted Aquariums.

Thank you.

I got a couple of update shots form my 50-gallon setup tonight. Here is a quartering-from-above view.

I have the full-tank shot here. I really need to paint the wall white. I can't figure out how to fix the white balance and the wall color is always off.

The C. cutteri is still looking good. His colors have deepened.

I might have some more new updates on the way. I am pondering a riparium setup for this little group of Gymnogeophagus that I have. I think I might do it in a rimless 75 and also include a big shoal of cories.

But I'm still thinking about it.

Here is a quick photo update for the most recent layout in my 50-gallon setup. I still have the cutteri in there. He has grown up a bit bigger and still gets along fine with the other fish and the plants.
