do you know of any types of cichlids that can live in saltwater?

i know chromides can live in salt water but a while back I read that some other types of cichlids were breeding in a lake with a higher concentration of salt than sea water. has anyone heard of this?

could you possible acclimate tanganyikan cichlid to a salt water tank?

I've never heard of such a thing

Tilapia. They can take water with higher salinity than the ocean. Such as the Salton Sea.

I would agree about tilapia, but there is also an entire species under cichla that live in saltwater, I remeber reading it somwhere but I just dont remeber what the fish were.

It was my mis-reading and not remebering but it is in a larger classificatoin within a family of that falls in with saltwater fish that may be closely tied to cichlids withing a larger family if that makes any sense, anyways here is the link.. http://cichlidresearch.com/introducingcichlids.html

its pretty intresting.
