Good link to a good discussion!
Which got it right...
Thiaminase in excessive amounts can cause slowing of growth due simply to a lack of available energy for growth.
Goldies are comparatively high in thiaminase when compared to most tropical feeders, insects/inverts and crustacea.
Goldies are also high in fats not easily metabolized, which can lead to 'Fatty Liver' disease.

All in all with all the other live feeders/foods available Goldies are a poor choice.

goldfish do not cause hith...

hith is most likely caused by poor nutrition and poor water quality, of which goldfish add to however.
:iagree:

healthy goldfish are fine to feed as a treat.
Keyword: "TREAT", i.e. fed infrequently and in limited quanity.
Personally I would never feed Goldies as feeders, too many other great alternatives.

I dont plan on feeding the feederfrogs that often, they're gonna be quarantined for 3-4 weeks and I dont plan on breeding the frogs either, just somethin to feed the fish once in a while.

Hmm I tend to believe that If I powerfeed the feeders with good food and water changes, they will be healthy and nutritional as well. 'Specially feeding them to my cichlids after immediately after I fed them so it'll end up in the ciclids stomach anyways.
Frogs are good feeders, one or two per week would IMO be fine.

What about bullfrogs i can catch lots of common bullfrog tadpoles in a minnow trap near my home what if i qt those till they grow into frogs and feed them to my cichlids would that be safe? They grow fast and big around my way just big bull frogs and lots of them what do bullfrog tadpoles eat?

I was wondering the same thing. I can catch a lot of leopard frogs here. Big guys I have seen reach lengths of 8 inches, but most of the ones I catch are somewhere around 4inches. They do love crayfish. I was going to drop a couple in my O tank, and see what happened, but I stopped myself. I think that the frogs may harbor a lot of fat as they do hibernate in the winter, but this is just a theory...

Leopard frogs are fine, I've fed'em to my O.
Bullfrogs as far as I know are non-toxic, they should be fine as treats, but double check species info just to be safe ;)

Cray's are excellent food, I get'em from a local bait-shop.
I like'em on the smaller side, just a large mouthful so the fish can really get their pharyngeal teeth working on'em.
I also remove pincers before feeding so as to avoid any possible injury.
