Cichlids vs oddballs

Here in Florida we get waters down in the 40s at winter. I don't see any reason why Lepisosteus platyrhincus couldn't be kept in ~60 some odd degree temps that would (should?) keep the sterlet happy. At mid 60s, you could keep some trout and greylings and things of that sort as well. It would make a VERY interesting and unique tank.

I'm not as familiar with sterlets as I would like to be. I'd kind of like to have some someday. I guess I'll read up on them.

Great ideas here guys, love the idea of keeping trout with them. A tank with maybe two florida gar, a few brown trout and a couple of sterlet would look great, the room I keep my fish in rarely gets above 68, usually lower than this so i'm sure the temperature would suit everyone.

For me this is a very hard decision LOL. Both are great ,but they do have there downside. Oddball's for are a pain in the ass to train off live. Freaking DAts :P. cichlids are just plain out a-holes unless you get geos. for me geos are "meh" LOL. I dont know even though I was into cichlids at the start. I still would prefer them. More hardy easy and got some good color. But Oddball's are badass. ME I just say I like both. I just cant do without them cichlids or oddballs. Idk if this post made any sense LOL

I like both too but I think I'm definitely leaning towards the oddballs.. After seeing that Sterlets get to 3' I think I'll have to give them a miss as my tank is only 30" wide.. Suppose I could keep them for a while, sell them on to someone with a pond and then buy smaller ones again.

Why not both?

I'm with Justin best of both worlds has always worked for me , once you've found a balance of fish that works it can be very rewarding
