cichlids will not eat veggies

get it online! but my o's go absolutely insane for nls! its like crack to them for some reason!

Yea thats a good call with the crickets. If they are store bought and were raised from babies then they should be safe but crickets and other bugs can be dangerous. When i first purchased my oscars i used to love watching them feed.
So i was outside regularly looking for grubs, crickets, and what ever else would fit in there mouth. But then someone brought it to my attention the risk. He told me that say i found a cricket in my yard, i know what kind of fertilizer and chemicals i use. But, if that cricket came from someone elses yard or field then they carry what they came in contact with. Soooo.....contaminated cricket=dead oscar. So enjoy their spectacular feeding habbits, but be aware of what you are placing in the tank.

all our crickets are store bought from petsmart (the only thing we really have around here)
the oscar is dead now :( our jack dempsey who never showed aggression and theyd been together for a couple months at least decided to rip him apart one night so we dont know if were going to replace him or just keep a peaceful tank (well excluding the one jack) of catfish and stuff like that

WOW, I've had the most picky eaters (Dovii) eat Hikari. Most cichlids can't resist the MSG and Chili Powder in Hikari. Yeah sorry for your loss, unfortunately this is the WAY of the cichlids. Even if you get one thats more aggressive, it may kill your Jack. You can work it back and forth and so on trying to mix the right aggression with the right size so that fish loss doesn't happen but you cannot escape it.

Also I dont feed live food ever, frozen bloodworms are fairly cheap, but yeah I only feed fleshy food if Im breeding otherwise only pellets.

ya we only fed our oscar crickets once now we only feed them to our arowana (bc thats the only thing it will eat right now, it refuses blood worms, pellets, and flakes) we fed our cichlids/the jack bloodworms for the most part

Thats tough as sh** im not even going to lie. The two oscars I had were some of the toughest fish i ever seen. I witnessed them holding their own in my tank for many months. But i have a JD now because my oscars out grew my tank sooner then i had expected. The JD, along with my Fire Mouth and Green Severum make my tank what it is.
